SPANISH MEETING

Day 1

Met in the main hall where three students played three hymns on different instruments from the three countries in the project (Finland, Poland and Spain).

Flamenco show by the students in years 3 and 5, where they taught us about the typical costumes, different dances, accessories, instruments etc. We also had time to practice a dance. After the show we listened to one of the most well known guitarists in Andalusia, Miguel Chamizo.

Lesson in Spanish omelette making. The team from each country learnt to cook Spanish omelettes and contributed to the typical Spanish food which was eaten at school with all the teachers. In this way the members from the different countries could experience the typical foods of our county; starters, main dishes, salads, desserts etc.

After the meal we began a tourist visit of the old part of Arcos de la Frontera, but the inclemency of the weather meant we could not fully complete it.

Day 2

In the first hours we had a meeting where we exchanged the students’ homework from the different countries.

Adaptation of ‘Don Quijote de la Mancha’: The students from year 6 did a production of the most well known parts of the book, combined with images based on the illustrations in the story of Don Quijote

The visitors also saw a presentation with pictures and a summary of each and every one of the chapters of the book.

Visit of all the departments of the school, where both teams got to see the classes and the teaching methods in our country, as well as all the murals made by the different classes based on the book ‘Don Quijote de la Mancha’, the classrooms for different subjects, the gym, the patio, the library etc.

Tasting of wines from the regions: the visitors had the opportunity to taste the most famous wines from around the area, from the driest to the sweetest, through from the amontillado sherry to the scented oloroso sherry.

Visit of the old part of Jerez de la Frontera, where we saw the typical streets, the churches, the Andalusian courtyards, the most important squares etc.

Flamenco dinner: we attended a dinner with a mix of Andalusian and Moroccan food. After this we listened to a flamenco group from the most typical gypsy district of Jerez (The district of Santiago).

Day 3

Trip to ‘El Puerto de Santa María’ to take the Catamaran and to visit the capital of the province, Cadiz. We took a visit to the most typical sites of the town, like the port, the Caleta and the Campo del sur beaches, the Cathedral, etc. Then we ate and spent part of the afternoon at Victoria beach.

Visit to one of the most important wine cellars of the country, Gonzales Byass, where we discovered the different types of wine made there, from the driest to the sweetest, the different types of grape, the barrels of wines, the distilleries, the vineyards, etc.

Day 4

Visit with the Polish team to one of the oldest buildings in Jerez, the Alcazar. Here we could visit different parts like the mosque, the oil mill, the arms courtyard, the Arab baths, the gardens, etc.

We visited El Puerto de Santa María and we saw some of the streets and typical sites. We went on a Puerto Sherry tour and finished by visiting the Muralla beach.
